TTB Makes Application Form Available for New Permit To Import Processed Tobacco
June 15, 2009The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has announced that new permits to manufacture or import processed tobacco application forms are now available.
Certain provisions of the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 (Act), which was signed into law on February 4, 2009, require any person who manufactures or imports processed tobacco to qualify for and obtain a TTB permit to engage in that business. The Act includes a transitional rule under which a person engaged in the business as a manufacturer or importer of processed tobacco on April 1, 2009, who submits an application to TTB within 90 days after April 1, 2009 (that is, on or before June 30, 2009), may continue in that business pending final action by TTB on the permit application.
Those who are engaged in the business of importing processed tobacco, were engaged in that business on April 1, 2009, and do not currently have a TTB permit as an importer of tobacco products must submit an application for a permit on or before June 30, 2009, using the recently updated TTB F 5230.4 application form (PDF). Previous versions have been superseded and may not be used.
