Biscuits Sold at Asian Grocery Stores Recalled for Suspected Melamine

November 6, 2008

Everlasting Distributors Inc., Bayonne, N.J., is recalling its “Fresh and Crispy Jacobina Biscuits” because they may be contaminated with melamine. The product, in 3.88 oz (110 gm) packages, comes in a blue and red color clear plastic package, labeled “JACOBINA.”  The biscuits were distributed nationally to Asian grocery stores.

The recall was initiated on October 29, after U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered melamine in the product.

The FDA has broadened its domestic and import sampling and testing of milk-derived ingredients and finished food products containing milk or milk-derived ingredients from Chinese sources. FDA has recommended that consumers not consume certain products because of possible contamination with melamine.
